Political campaigning at work

Someone has put a poster for their chosen political party on the canteen notice board at work.

How do you feel about that, should HR remove it, or is it ok to leave it up there.

Customers will see it as they are invited into the canteen. They may assume it represents the companies political choices. Employees may assume it was placed there by management and feel they are being told what way to vote.

What is your opinion on canvasing at work.

Thanks

Canvassing is talking to people and trying to persuade them to agree with you, not sticking a poster up on a noticeboard.

Customers in what sense? A canteen in a workplace where the employees and clients eat together?

HebburnPokemon · 28/06/2024 14:55

What party was it?

That should help me decide whether YABU or not 😁

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 28/06/2024 14:56

No it shouldn’t be allowed. HR should remove it.

Hoolahoophop · 28/06/2024 17:57

The canteen is open to customers, staff, suppliers and contractors. So everyone we do business with.

The poster is not canvassing. Sorry for my mislabelling.

The party is reform.

As the election gets closer there is a lot of ranting (for want of a better word) about the poor choices and the disappointment in the main parties. There are a few supporters of the smaller parties who are using that to give information on the parties they support I think in an attempt to persuade them to vote in a certain way. The poster may be a part of that.

We have never had a poster for political party displayed before. Although at the previous election there was a flyer reminding people of why they should use their vote. That was not removed.

It should be removed and most definitely removed then the party under discussion has senior people who make such racist and illegal remarks.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 28/06/2024 18:06

Political stuff doesn’t belong in the average workplace.

Surely putting a Reform poster up is pretty much considered bullying? Unless the staff are 100% white, straight and middle class?

Startingagainandagain · 28/06/2024 18:25

People should keep their politics out of the workplace.

A Reform poster is even more inappropriate considering the racism/xenophobia attached to it.

Frankly if this was put up in my workplace I would rip it off and shove it in the nearest bin...

LlynTegid · 29/06/2024 09:11

As it is viewed by customers, I don't think it should be there. Regardless of political party.

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 29/06/2024 10:15

I don’t think it matters which party it is. It shouldn’t be up.
