It says "If we had a vote on July 4th, we, too, would pick Labour, because it has the greatest chance of tackling the biggest problem Britain faces; a chronic and debilitating lack of economic growth."

Seems like an endorsement to me.

If you read the papers this week, you’d know that Starmer has no chance of high growth unless he dismantles the red tape, civil servants and lawyers who are throttling growth. We are doomed to endless low productivity.

Notonthestairs · 28/06/2024 08:45

The title of the article is "Keir Starmer should be Britain's next Prime Minister - Why labour should form the next government".

Fairly clear endorsement.

So why shouldn’t he dismantle those things? If he gets the kind of majority the polls are predicting he can do anything he likes.

omg you think a wet like Starmer if going to drive change? The only change he’ll effect is self-id and more irregular migration.

They said that about Attlee. Not self id, obviously!

Am I the only one here who thinks that this is sending a pretty clear message between the City of London and Labour? It is a huge signal on public private finances; and there will be more.

Very positive imo

If you read it, it’s certainly left leaning. I wouldn’t say it’s biased, it’s no Guardian, but it’s definitely more skewed to the left.

The point I’m making really is that just because the Economist thinks something, doesn’t make it correct.

If the telegraph said it would you believe it ? 😂
Look up The Economist on t’internet and most say it’s represents classical social and economic liberalism. Supported Thatcher and Reagan. Free market as they come.

Omg what’s the Tory record on Taxation and immigration ? Not just what they say by the way, what they’ve done ?

The Economist does.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that The Economist is endorsing Labour based on this article. It's just saying that Starmer has brought Labour back as a more mainstream party, isn't it?

"Labour must form Britain's next government"

And they say if the magazine had a vote they would vote Labour.

@Teentaxidriver

I was a subscriber at the time of the Tory mini-budget when interest rates surged and the pension system needed a £65billion bailout to prevent our pension funds collapsing.

I remember Farage and the Daily Mail being pleased with it being so "Conservative".
