Tory scandal & corruption root cause

As we have just found out of another potential Tory scandal involving alleged insider betting by allies of PM and Tory Campaign manager, my question is what do we think the root cause if for their corruption and non sense of entitlement.

I know i used to think that it was mainly down to the fact that many of the cabinet and leading members of the party, had been born into privileged and wealthy backgrounds, had attended public schools and top Universities and therefore had a sense of entitlement bred into them.

However, I also think that part of the reason they stumble from one sleazy scandal to another is actually down to their hard core voters, who will find a way to excuse their behaviour no matter what.

Now i know their are many Tory voters who are appalled by some of the Govt's recent scandals, but who might still vote Tory begrudgingly, as think they are least worst option. I am not talking about these voters, I am talking about the hardcore ones who will always find an excuse to justify the PM or party's behaviour no matter what they do.

Both major parties have a hardcore base who will vote for them no matter what, however, the Tory hardcore base is bigger & much more entrenched.

They remind me of Trump cultists who will find an excuse for his behaviour and would still support him even if he is jailed.

Time & time again i see some voters justifying their parties leaders actions whether it was COVID partygate scandal, Brexit lies, illicit and insider gambling, D DAY betrayal, PPE contracts scandal, cash for cronies and so on.

Therefore, in my view it is little wonder the Tories continue to get caught being involved in one scandal after another, their own hardcore voter base will always back them and they know it so therefore they think they can get away with whatever they want with no consequences.

Boris Johnson was the extreme example of this behavior, but it is embedded at the very core of the party in my view.

Again i am only expressing my view nothing more, however, curious as to what others think.

privilege. Many of them have grown up in a circle of it and as such they genuienly don't believe they should face the same consequences as others. As they are 'special' they 'work harder' or spout nonsense about 'caring more about their kids education' in relationship to private schools.

and there will always be Turkeys voting for Christmas. It's exhausting watching people vote for the people who believe them to be scum.

Getting away with things generally emboldens such people.
They by and large come from backgrounds where even criminal behaviour goes unpunished because they can afford the best legal teams. Reputations are managed by expensive PR as needed and they already have all the top contacts to cover things up thanks to mummy and daddy / the public school network.
It is utterly depressing that the nastiest, most self centred and immoral people get into positions of power.
Trump boasted he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and his supporters would still be behind him. He has ushered in the very lowest ebb of politics I have ever seen in democracy. I worry about the effect of his seemingly successful psychopathy on UK politicians behaviour. Monkey see, monkey do.
Tory scandals are sadly not new but increasingly the undefendable is indeed defended and survived all too often. We thankfully haven’t gone as far down the road as poor America yet and I hope our imminent election significantly slows the speed of travel.
I don’t condone violence of any sort but I can’t help but think it would be a wonderful thing for the world if Trump was to pop off from natural causes.
Of course then his conspiracy theory voters would probably start a civil war claiming the democrats had bumped him off.

Why do you think it's just Tory corruption? It might be the most recent and obvious form of corruption but basically politics is just groups of people forging alliances to feather their own nests and grab whatever they can.

Perhaps the Tories are better at it because historically they own more of the land and means of production, so have more to bully people with.

Corruption is not just one political colour. Where I live, it is purple with a distinctly reddish tinge.

It's thriving at the moment because of the total absence of meaningful scrutiny of "authorities" which apparently started in 2010. The deliberate, systematic and cruel dismantling and selling off of valuable community resources to keep people separated, apathetic and miserable.

I'm sure it's not just in my region that they've ridden a coach and horses through the 2010 Localism Act. Community transfer my arse.

A lot of what the national/local govt do is barely legal but people are now so dejected and phone-addicted they can't even be bothered protesting, so it just gets worse.

Also, corruption is rampant because of the fact that by saying what I just said, I am automatically labelled as a conspiracy theorist by the many people who choose not to get informed and prefer not to look.

Corruption needs calling out every time, but it's a full time job and who can spare the energy?

All political parties have problems with sleaze but it's become acute for the Tories now because of the fall-out from Brexit. The lunatic hardliners in the ERG took down May and drove out a lot of the more moderate end of the party. It's only the real nutters and/or those who don't care about the country and are just there to fill their own pockets that have stayed in.

Brexit/Johnson/ERG et al have absolutely destroyed the Tory party. It's going to take them years to recover.

Grifters gotta grift. It's not about class or background. The Conservative Party has degraded though and allows more of them in / venerates greed.

The culture of most organisations is top down so if there are a bunch of self serving arseholes at the top it will create an atmosphere in the Party that is acceptable and maybe even required to behave like this.
Its not like it was a lot of money and they hardly needed it - its just the Tories default setting is "how do we make money from this" first and anything else comes later.
I am bloody sick of them despite voting for them most of my adult life
