I was a Tory - Has Rishi Sunak lost the plot re National Service?

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 26/05/2024 10:01

I was a Tory since starting work
My parents were initially Labour but as they built their wealth they too became Tories

I am fed up with the BS all political parties spout quiet often

We now have the date of the GE

This ill-though out, pie-in-the-sky proposal re National Service

AIBU to feel Sunak is a closet socialist/Labour man??

(The bit about the alternative to NS, ie volunteer weekend work is meaningless to many)

Tories had a decent chance of winning the GE - this Nastional Service BS, will stop many Tories voting Tory for sure.

Did no one who posts actually read Sunaks proposal??!!

The so called compulsory service amounts to one weekend a month volunteering (with plenty of exceptions/exclusions) 🙄 big whoopeedoo

Quite.

But let's not let the truth get in the way of 493 threads screaming that the sky is falling in and all old people must die in mysterious accidents involving a Parisian underpass on their way to vote or we're all DOOMED.

A closet socialist ! Lol.
His family business made £150 million profit last year.
He's a Tory git down to his bone marrow.

Do you know how many millions the socialist, Mr Stammer of Labour is worth???

Labour is not a socialist party and hasn't been for some time except under the blip of Corbyn.

I don't know of any socialist called Mr Stammer. If you mean Keir Starmer, I imagine like many MPs and people with a London law background, he is wealthy. However, he is not a businessman, nor in Sunak's league. Sunak is one of the richest people in parliament.

Tbh it's not worth the time investment. It's never going to happen. He knows it, we know it.

Do you want me to define what "socialist" means???

Do you know how many millions the socialist, Mr Stammer of Labour is worth???

Sunak- wealth in March 2024 £651 million
Starmer- wealth in 2024 £7.7 million

Only about £644 million difference then.

No thank you. It's dated and irrelevant. Socialism is really about social justice - it isn't defined any longer, apart from by the most fervid- as some form of centralised division of wealth. It is defined as everyone having access to fairness of opportunity from the start of life until the end, whatever their personal circumstances eg disability, parental poverty, so that they can achieve highly and are not discriminated against because of their background. It's about raising the bar so that everyone has decent healthcare, education, food, housing, adult social care and the opportunity to achieve well for themselves- not only the already rich and privileged.

It's not about not wanting people to be successful- it's about fairness for all. No child should grow up in fear or poverty, no family should live in squalid housing, no old person should be scared about their living circumstances or unable to heat their home, no one should be waiting months for decent healthcare or dentistry. There should be no privilege in those things.

If you earn more that's fine - you should pay more back. And that earned wealth should not be from the exploitation of the poor through- as we are seeing now by supermarkets, energy companies, pharmaceutical companies, housebuilders , fast food giants etc.

Let me rephrase the question.

Look up the definition of a socialist - if you are unable to comprehend the meaning, I am ready, willing and able to help

HTH

You really are not able to help.
I answered your question.

And Sunak is no socialist by any definition of the word. Starmer may be.

No you aren't. I doubt if you're able to define anything in any way that might be a useful addition to the debate.

LlynTegid · 26/05/2024 18:38

You are assuming, in political terms at least, that Mr Sunak knew the plot to being with.

Churchview · 26/05/2024 18:47

" Nastional" Service. Exactly what you'd expect from the nasty party.

BeyondMyWits · 26/05/2024 19:08

18 year olds... adults... he wants to make one subset of ADULTS do stuff in THEIR spare time. Who is next... what age group? The early retired (I am one) would be the next easy option.

It’s like they’re trying to throw the election to deliberately lose for some reason.

Yes they've fucked everything up and things are going to get worse so they want to blame somebody else.

AmpleFatball · 26/05/2024 22:23

I’d support Conservative Party politicians and members being forced to complete some form of national service - would be nice if they gave something back to the country.

Incredible.
So you would find it a "real post" if the socialists had a chance of winning
