Tactical Voting - WTF

how many of us are planning to vote tactically but think the party your having to vote for are just as crap as the party you’re trying to keep out.

FPTP is a real mind f*

I've only had to tactically vote once. Mostly I've lived in Labour strongholds and I'm a Labour voter so no problem. The one time I tactically voted was for the Lib Dems and what did they do - jump into bed with the fucking Tories!

I have a choice of SNP and Tory. Nothing is appealing about these two options.

I used Swap My Vote last time. I live in a safe Labour seat; I was paired with someone in a marginal seat. I could vote her choice safely, and her voting my way came very close to unseating the incumbent Tory.

I suspect the existence and use of sites like that might just be the impetus to dump FPTP, which worked as long as people couldn't communicate constituency polling easily.

Mind you, probably worth treble-checking such sites aren't run by the Tories and suggesting wrong results.

I voted tactically last time - much against my better instincts - but it did help. We're in a solidly blue area, but by voting for the Lib Dems our MP's majority was slashed significantly. Sadly still not enough to get rid of them.

This time around I'm not going to do that though. I want to vote for who I want to win. And I think anything could happen this time!

You must know which is the least-worst choice for you in a parliamentary election though?

And you're certain Labour isn't going to leapfrog whoever was second?

I agree FPTP is the pits but here we are.

There's barely any point voting here. Only variation from Labour since its founding is two single terms of SNP.

I moved here from a more variable seat and am traditionally Lib Dem - though haven't voted for them since the coalition shit show

If the Lib Dems slashed the majority last time, there's a much stronger chance they'll take the seat this time.

Definitely no chance of Labour or lib dem leap frogging. Traditional rural constituency.

it still remains to seen what SNP are going to use the general election for.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens to the SNP vote in general. They will be incredibly worried.

Hoosemover · 25/05/2024 16:25

@qwertyqwertyqwertyqwerty Their chances have improved without yousaf, not sure by how much .

If true-blue Mid Bedfordshire can oust the Tories, anything is possible.

That's true. And in many ways my vote might be wasted. But I don't want to vote for a party I don't support. Plus, our MP is standing down, and it's always possible that we might see previous Tory voters transfer their vote to Labour. The new Conservative candidate is totally unknown, so all loyalty to our previous MP may allow some voters to re-think their choice.
