Trying to trace Birth Mother

Hi,

I have changed my name for this and will not be able to give much in the way of background as I need to be sure of not being outed in real life.

I would very much appreciate peoples insight and help with this.

Basically, I want to contact my birth mother, assuming she is still alive. I have just got my birth certificate which details her address when I was born (not too far from me!). I have her profession at the time and the area in which she was born. What I don't have is her birth date. The Social Worker dealing with my case is applying to the courts for the adoption records, but she did say it would likely take ages.

Is there a way I could try to find more info on her without waiting for her birth date?

NORCAP held no joy by the way.

Thanks

Before I begin, what's NORCAP?

Hi Fyimate. Norcap is a charity set up to help adults affected by adoption and has the longest held adoption contact register.

Ok thanks.
Well have you tried the larger libraries? I hear they hold birth/marriage records. How about the electoral role register?
There are many sites for finding people online too..

ok so I want to find my birth mother and I have my own birth certificate in front o me - it will give my mothers name, any former names aswell if she is married

so I really want to see which is her name given to her at birth

then I want to search the GRO indexes in a library or recrd offcie- i wouldn't esearch online for a birth index form this name- in an archive your local one county one - they will be able to asist you with how to search, but no actually do it or you

if you are still looking
