Well, it was earlier this morning but now I can't access it.

Details are only available via pay as you go credits and I've found a 10% discount code which is UYR23PAYG (I don't know how much they are charging though)

If anyone manages to access it today I'd be interested to know how you got on!

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooh, I've been waiting for this seemingly forever!

Mercy · 13/01/2009 11:31

I've just had another look and it's up and running again.

Not cheap though . I need to work out exactly who/what I'm looking for before I buy any credits (it's just so tempting to click on loads of things which is fine if you have a suscription of course!)

Brilliant! Thanks for posting that! Might renew my ancestry subscrip now!

Ivykaty44 · 13/01/2009 11:36

It is only on findmypast at the moment - ancestry don't have the 1911

Mercy · 13/01/2009 11:36

Unfortunately it's not on the Ancestry site, it's a new one done in conjunction with Find My Past.

It is searchable via address though which is great!

I expect ancestry will get it fairly soon-ish, so I'm going to limit my splurging to my most burning questions...

PortAndLemon · 13/01/2009 11:40

Humph. And when you look at the details, about half the counties (including those I want) are "COMING SOON". Bah.

Buda · 13/01/2009 11:44

Does it include Republic of Ireland do you know? Would have still been part of UK then.

Ivykaty44 · 13/01/2009 11:49

findmypast - they have done all the work on this one so will keep it to themsleves for a good while first, so that they can reep their hard work so to speak.

It is annoying as the county I live in have a subscription in all the libaries for ancestry and therefore I can access it for free (well in with my council tax!)If I go to the library and log on.

It is good to have it three years early though even if it is in dribs and drabs and only partial details.

i am interested to see how many babies my great grandmother had in total - as this was listed on the 1911 census, so even babies that have died will be entered.

PortAndLemon · 13/01/2009 11:58

Buda -- no. Although the Irish 1911 census appears to be online here (not noticed it before, so I don't know much about it).

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 13/01/2009 12:01

www.1911census.co.uk/ says there you can view basic details for free then payg for the records once sure it is who you want. What a shame it's not Scotland though, we have to wait another 2yrs according to Auntie Beeb

PortAndLemon · 13/01/2009 12:03

(Re Irish census online -- they won't have all the counties up until mid-2009 either. But Dublin, Antrim, Down and Kerry are up now)

Buda · 13/01/2009 12:10

Thanks PortandLemon!

Keep meaning to do a family tree - must get around to it!

southeastastra · 13/01/2009 12:38

argh just paid to look up my dad and mil (who are both around the 80 age mark). neither of them could remember hardly anything about their ancestors . didn't seem that interested.

although it seems my greatgrandfather was a chauffeur (maybe)

weepootleflump · 13/01/2009 12:52

How much was it sea?

southeastastra · 13/01/2009 12:56

£6.95 for 60 credits, though takes 10 credits to look at the transcript and 30 credits to view the original page!

so not so good if you have a common name and need to search alot i imagine.

RustyBear · 13/01/2009 13:03

Is it the full edition? My dad will be on it - he was born in April 1910

Dad was born in Fulham, so he should be on there

Ivykaty44 · 13/01/2009 14:05

I can't find my grandfather , he may have been transcribed wrong as I cant find his parents either.

Although i can find my grandmother who was living with her parents and her granny was in the house aswell.

SaltireOShanter · 13/01/2009 14:09

Well according to that page my ancestors didn't live at the address they did in the 1901 census, and their street isn't there either!

ChippyMinton · 13/01/2009 14:17

I think I have found my house, it had a name, no number, back then, so will double check the deeds before I access the records. Not sure when it was built, but it wasn't on the 1901 census.

claireybrations · 13/01/2009 14:18

Searched my maiden name-seems that mis spelling of names is not a new thing. Am only on page 4 and have already come across Alizabef, Edif, Elezzabeth, Dward (son of Edward) and a few other unusual spellings.

Mumsnetters would have had a field day "yes call your baby Elizabeth but ffs spell it properly!"

Mercy · 13/01/2009 16:12

I've had a fairly successful day.

I found my grandmother and dh's grandfather (plus his paternal great-grandfather who lived only a couple of miles from where we are now - both of his grandfathers went to NZ in the 1920s/30s)

Also some other information which is good.

The census pages are quite interesting to look at as they are in colour, although hard to read (no zoom function atm).

Expensive but worth it (just)!

Rustybear, did you find your dad?

Haven't had time to look yet, as I'm at work. I'll have a look this evening.
