Anyone need an emmigration look up???

bubblerock · 08/11/2008 10:41

I needed to find some passenger lists for some ancesters and living relatives that went to New Zealand, Australia & Canada so subscribed to access the lists for a month. I've done my searches and have until 27th November if anyone needs any people looking up.

Data available -
Passenger lists 1890 - 1960 from the UK to all countries.

Let me know if I can help anyone

Can you do that?? We have been told that a builder who conned us out of loads of money did a runner to New Zealand.

It would be great to find out if he did.

He went this year though, how much is it?

Just up to 1960 I'm afraid - I guess it's either data protection or they haven't scanned any records past that year yet. Bummer about your builder though .

Forgot to say - if you don't want to post the details here, you can email them to me bubblerockjl 2 at aol dot com

I've also got ancestry worldwide if anyone needs look ups for other countries census details etc...

Bubble, I'm thinking of upgrading to ancestry worldwide (my subscription is due for renewal soon).

Can you tell me what sort of areas it covers? I've always got the impression that it's mostly North America and Australasia in terms of location, is that right? Also, what additional sources does it cover?

TIA!

bubblerock · 08/11/2008 18:34

It mainly covers USA, Canada and Australia, you can access census details. I have only really used it for Canada as I'm not sure where my Australian people settled. I'm not sure what else I get access to that I didn't get before. I might downgrade soon - then I'll probably realise what extras I was getting! lol

Hi Bubblerock - would be so grateful if you could look up my Dad's aunt who married and emigrated to New Zealand sometime after 1921.

Her maiden name was Alice Vigus and she married a Francis W. Brown in Southwark, London in 1921 - so they would be Alice and Francis Brown.

Many thanks.

bubblerock · 08/11/2008 19:55

Will take a look now

Bubblerock - are you a bit of a whizz on family history etc? I am trying to find out more about my maternal GM, but all I have is her name and the fact that she came from Switzerland to UK, gave birth to my mother and then returned. (DM was subsequently adopted). Any ideas where to look? Thanks.

bubblerock · 08/11/2008 20:20

I'm still looking scarfmaker (not showing up at the moment) mine went via australia so maybe that's where they are - do you know their rough birth years?

Merlin - I've never really looked at people in mainland Europe, I can see what records I can access though, what info do you have? (email me if you don't want to post it)

Merlin · 08/11/2008 20:32

Thanks bubble - have emailed you.

Scarfmaker · 08/11/2008 21:02

Sorry bubblerock - kids have distracted me - I know Alice was born in 1897 (Alice Vigus then) but not sure about Francis Brown as haven't their marriage cert.

Thanks.

Scarfmaker · 08/11/2008 21:40

Bubblerock - don't worry if you can't find - the Vigus family (my maiden name) seem to be very elusive and I've had difficulty before finding bits - maybe another time.

Many thanks.

bubblerock · 08/11/2008 22:36

I've not found any definites - there are some F/Frank Browns with Mrs Brown, but without extra details (such as their address before departure) it makes it hard to decide which couple they are. If they'd had children it would be easier! I can't wait until next year when they release the 1911 census - it should fill in a few gaps! Even better when they release the 1921 one.

If I were you, I would order their marriage certificate as this will give you addresses etc..

Thanks so much for looking - I will get their marriage certificate sometime.

Hello Bubblerock,

Thanks for your really kind offer. Would it be possible to do a bit of a speculative check for me. I'm looking for my GG Grandfather. My grandma tells me that he went to the US or Australia before she was born (i.e. before about 1927) but she's a bit hazy about which or when! She just remembers his trunk and him telling them stories about it... I think probably US as some of his family emigrated to the US.

Anyhow, his name was Abraham Barber or possibly Abraham Tyler (he was born Abraham Tyler but adopted the name Barber when his mother married). He was born in about 1864 in Tamworth, Staffordshire/Warwickshire. It's possible that he was with his wife Lizzie Barber.

Sorry that's very vague as I'm not sure when or where he went and am a bit unsure on the name! If you do happen to find anything I'd be really grateful.

bubblerock · 17/11/2008 15:33

I've only just noticed your message Catz and had a dig around - no definites yet on the migration front so I'm just trying some other angles. Where were they in 1891?? I can't find them for that year.

OP posts:
bubblerock · 17/11/2008 22:07

Anymore for anymore???

Catz · 19/11/2008 20:59

Hello Bubblerock,

I've just seen your message. Many thanks for looking at this, it's very kind of you. It sounds as if you've been doing some digging if you've spotted the 1891 gap. Unfortunately I've not been able to trace them in that Cenus so it's plausible that they were out of the country at that time.

I know that they were in the UK in 1886 when they married and had their son Abraham. My next trace is that they had a son in 1892 again in the UK so it's possible that they were away at some point between 1886-1892. Their next child (or at least the next one to survive till the 1901 Census) was born in 1899 so again there's a possibility that they were away 1892-1899.

If you do have anything I'd be really grateful

Thanks again for your help

bubblerock · 21/11/2008 11:03

They are driving me mad!! Do you think he was in the military? I thought if I went backwards and put the tree on ancestry it might pick up more details, It linked with 2 family trees but gave no more details on Abraham & Lizzie. If you want to look at the tree and check details give me your email and I'll send the invite.

bubblerock · 21/11/2008 12:50

Do you have the marriage certificate for Abraham and Lizzie?

Only 6 days left if anyone wants a look up

OP posts:
eidsvold · 22/11/2008 06:50

if anyone wants aussie look ups I can do those

[email protected] I may not be very successful. I seem to have hit a brick wall with one I was asked to try and find.

There is also an inward bound list for emigrants to the UK Merlin - might be worth a try.

I am trying to find an Mary Elizabeth Vivian who went from england to Australia. Apparently her parents died ( or so we were told) and so she was sent to family in England. I think she went around 1899 - she was born in 1880.

eidsvold · 22/11/2008 06:51

sometimes aussie papers have the lists of emigrants or you may find some references to them

Try

here I found a lot of references to family there.

bubblerock · 22/11/2008 22:16

Hi Eidsvold - was Mary born in Australia then came to England then went back to Australia in 1899ish? Have you found her on the UK census at all?

PS - Thanks for the Australian lookup offer, will definitely keep that in mind!

OP posts:
eidsvold · 23/11/2008 04:31

Mary was born in England - have managed to get her birth certificate and I have found her on the census - She was born in London.
