Sleeping dogs lie?

Last year sometime a new match popped up in my Ancestry DNA. This is the closest match I've seen. I'm possibly their half great aunt. This person is in a different country, one where this connection is highly possible. I have Googled them and if I'm correct they're in their mid-twenties. I'm old, my half sibling would be least 10 years older so possibly not here anymore. At the time I thought it's probably best to let sleeping dogs lie. But I am pondering sending a short message. Like High I see we're related do you want to explore the connection? What do you think?

Is this a surprise to you? Or might it be a surprise to them?

I think anyone going on DNA testing needs to accept it might unearth secrets. So if you were curious I think the message you proposed is good, open and no assumptions. As long as you accept you may get no response.

Surprise to me, but could be a shock to them. I have an old photo with a name and address in this country. While researching I found that the name is a nickname for my actual name. It would seem that I am named after an old flame. This person has left their details up. I might send a message later.

Good luck!

I found a long lost baby via ancestry (though she’s now an old woman!). I was aware of her existence. She knew more about her father than I expected, there had been a bit of ongoing contact for a while. She’d gone onto ancestry specifically to find out more. And I’d joined ancestry in case someone was looking. All good.

I think you should send that message. They will also be aware of the match, and they can just not reply if they wish to.
