I can provide names, DOBS, dates of death and locations of where they lived/died (in the UK, Lancashire area). I have checked in the "usual" places and local parish records but sadly to no avail.
I thought I'd found one but was a false alarm unfortunately.. Same name and location but dates didn't tally and the relatives buried with him don't match anyone in my family tree.
If locating graves is any area of specialism for anybody here, I'd really appreciate some help. Many thanks.

Did your search include the LanOPC website? Worth a look if not! And would they have been in an area with larger cemeteries than just individual church ones? The Liverpool cemeteries for example are searchable online.

Thanks for replying.. Yes I've tried the LanOPC website. I've found a few of the people I was researching through that particular site but a few remain illusive!

What dates?

1949 in Oldham Lancashire
1852 in Clitheroe (Ribble Valley area)
1882 in Clitheroe
1882 in Burnley (Nelson was place of death, so I imagine likely buried in Burnley or maybe Rochdale area).

Do you have the local newspaper subscription on Find My Past? I've found several family funerals reported in the local papers, with details of who and where, who was there and who sent floral tributes. My ancestors weren't anyone in particular. I think the funeral director probably offered it as an additional service to the family,

1852 the burial was most likely in the churchyard of the parish where he died. If he died away from home, of course, it might not be where you expect. Assuming he was CofE, that is. If he was Methodist or some other denomination, or Catholic, you need to be looking for burial grounds for those faiths.

Apologies if you know all this:
From about 1855, old parish churchyards were gradually closed and municipal cemeteries opened. Burials are likely to be there unless there was a family plot in the old churchyard. But to complicate metters, there could be a burial service at the church and the actual burial took place elsewhere.

On a quick look, I see Nelson cemetery records are available to search on Find A Grave, but Clitheroe records are still held by the council.

Hi - have you tried findagrave.com?
It’s free but you have to register.
I had fantastic luck with it.
Good luck!

You're going to have to do this the old fashioned way I'm afraid.

The 1882 in Burnley, is that the guy I described as "he was a right piece of work"?

You might want to have a look at Burnley Cemetery. I'll send you a PM with the details. Burnley cemetery should then be able to inform you of the location of the grave.

1882 Clitheroe. That is likely to be Waddington Road Cemetery which opened in 1861. If you want to see an index of graves and who is buried there then you will need to go to Clitheroe Library. I have no idea if you can just turn up and ask to view the Burial Registers or if you need to make an appointment.

1852 Clitheroe. I think I know who this is. The last burial at the Roman Catholic church was in 1846 so it couldn't have been there.

There is no record of her being buried at St Mary Magdalene or St James churches. This is confusing and needs a bit more looking into. I'll get back to you if I can find an answer.

I'm not sure who the 1949 in Oldham was you're looking for?
