Laptop for family history

I have a ten (?) year old laptop and a small Lenovo tablet. The former is really slow and the tablet screen a bit small. I don't really want to pay £700+ for a new laptop. What are the minimum requirements for a laptop solely for family history purposes? Any suggestions? If it is relative cheap I'd keep it solely for that purpose. Thanks.

What are you wanting to do with it? Just research eg on Ancestry on run some software on it like Family tree Majer?

Any current basic model laptop would do the job for using the internet, opening pdfs and images and compiling documents.

You generally get more for your money with a desktop than a laptop so if you don't need it to be mobile that might be an option, you'll also be able to get a bigger monitor which for things like building a detailed family tree diagram might be more useful

"You generally get more for your money with a desktop than a laptop"

I was just about to come here and say the exact same thing that I see that @InfoSecInTheCity has already said.

Unless you really do need a laptop then you get much better value with a desktop.

I am not recommending this particular one in any way, but just as an example, a fairly brief search on Amazon pulls up this mini desktop for £199.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/DreamQuest-Desktop-Computer-Dual-band-Bluetooth/dp/B0CPKXT6S9

and they've currently got a special deal with an extra £30 off.

You would also need to buy a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse as well.

Currys is quite a good place to look for those things. A monitor will set you back about £70 and a mouse and keyboard around £20.

So, you're looking at about £290 all in.
.

You can even get refurbished ones. Here, for example, is a complete Dell set up (even with two monitors) for £284
