If anyone could help me that would be great. Im doing family research and have done really well but I'm stuck on my great granfathers death and this is the relative my mum wants to know more about. We can't find out if he was created or buried or any record of him, we have looked on sited and the council and still can't find him were pretty sure he passed away on Oldham but because we're struggling now we're wondering if he went back to were he was born or lived when he was younger but we're not having much look with any of it. If anyone can offer any help that would be great because Im pretty sure he passed away in Oldham in the early 50s
Thanks in advance

Some details would be useful. Name, DoB, previous residences.

@Ag2520 Have you tried searching for a death record on FreeBMD? From that, it would give you enough information to be able to order a death certificate.

We already have quite a lot of information but when ever we enter it it comes up with no records match on any site

Try putting in wildcard spelling eg surname Brown, put in Brow etc. Also vary the dates as well, DGM&F marriage was in October 1941 but doesn’t actually appear until January 1942 for some reason

@Ag2520 Do the search by putting in as few criteria as possible. The more you narrow it down to an area or time period, the less likely it is you will find the record you are looking for.

For instance, the registration district of Oldham has had many boundary changes over the years, including with Ashton and variants of, so narrowing your search to Oldham only could miss him altogether if he was living just over the line of a boundary change. Even if you search the whole of Lancashire, he might have passed away just over the border in Yorkshire, or even gone to live elsewhere in the country. Civil registration districts do not necessarily coincide with parish, council or other boundaries.

It is also possible that the informant who registered the death may not have known his correct date of birth, so his age at death could be incorrect on the records, nor may they necessarily have known about middle names or spelling variations.
