Professional help - South Wales aristos

Where should I look for professional help untangling some relatives from the 1700s in South Wales.
The small church records are online and I've found someone born 1720s , but I want to go further back and see if I can trace his father.
It's a well known Welsh family, connected to the Howard family (of Ann Boleyn fame, who is my main target to see if I'm related) = the Cecils.
I did my 23andme DNA and I have some living relatives of the name Cecil as well, albeit they haven't replied to my messages.

Where could i engage someone to help me/ see what can be done. I'll travel to Wales if necessary as i also have other branches of the family there I can stay with.

Where exactly in South Wales? Possibly try Glamorgan Archives - they cover Bridgend, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff

Thabks. So church is in Caerleon, historic county of Monmouthshire.... I think it's now Newport.

And also have ancestors at Dyrffyn House which is Glamorgan...

Yes Caerleon comes under the county borough of Newport (town of my illustrious birth actually!) I would start here: https://www.newport.gov.uk/our-city/see-and-do/libraries/local-and-family-history

Dyffryn (just the one 'r') is in the Vale, yes, so here's your starting point: https://glamarchives.gov.uk

Hope you find some fascinating stuff! My dearly departed Nana swore blind we were related to Dic Penderyn... one day I need to do the research and find out if there's any basis to that or if she was just being a bit 'twp'!

Oh I have some of the Dyrffyn House mob in my files. Not going very far back, mind you.

I'm not family. I was just researching someone on the fringes of the Bloomsbury group, and ended up mapping the family of Clive Bell.

Happy to share a few odds and ends if you like?

"I did my 23andme DNA and I have some living relatives of the name Cecil as well, albeit they haven't replied to my messages."

If I might suggest, I've found that Ancestry is usually a lot better than 23andme.

Although it does mean having to do another dna test with them (it's normally £79 but they do regular promotions at £59). You are likely to get a lot more dna matches and, also, it's a lot easier to trace people on a family tree in Ancestry.

That's a shame we couldn't quite link up our areas of research, @Angelofmycoins .

Lots of good luck for finding the folk you're after!

RQG - register of qualified genealogists. Look for someone with Wales experience. I can recommend someone personally if you'd like.

If the family continued in the male line, Burke's Peerage might help.
