Hi everyone I have been reading alot on dna, ancestry ect very interesting stuff. Amazing what technology and science do i want to learn more! had a random thought today though after reading a post from a thread, if a mother where to take a sibling dna test with lets say two of her children and accidentally labled her own dna as 1 of the tested siblings instead of the biological parent would this error cause the test to state half siblings.? Would a mother and childs dna give the conclusion that they are half siblings or would it be inconclusive. How does it actually work.

Think it would be evident they were not siblings.

I don't see how you came to the conclusion they could show as half siblings.

She would share half her DNA with her child. More than 2 full siblings share, and a lot more than 2 half siblings share.

I know but are scientists able to see the error just by looking at the dna given , can they tell who mother is if not stated just purely on looking at the dna or is that not possible. No rude comments please if you have nothing nice to say say nothing at all

If they know one of the sample is the mother then yes, it's blindingly obvious.

If they have no information about how the 3 are related then they could be reasonably confident but not 100% certain - there are other rare and convoluted ways to share exactly 50% of your DNA with someone.

I understand now, thank you
