Tracing burial Scotland

Hi all,
My G.Grandmother died in a hospital in Glasgow in 1916. This would be approx 30 miles from her home.
Does anyone have any idea of how to track down where they might've buried her?
I'm guessing the family wouldn't have the money to transport her home, as she was a widow and 3 of her 4 sons were in WW1.
Who might keep records like this? The hospital, or a public record?
I've always felt so sad that she's out there. Even a paupers plot would be fine ...

The hospital would not keep records. Tracking down a burial location can be difficult, especially if there is not a headstone.

Few things to try:

  1. British Newspaper Archive - deaths were often announced in the paper, with details of where the funeral would be held. If it says a certain church, that's more than likely where the burial is.
  2. Find A Grave - huge database of headstones, but again if she was buried in an unmarked grave, won't be on there.
  3. Glasgow and west of Scotland family history society have burial records - https://www.gwsfhs.org.uk/tag/burial-registers/
  4. Glasgow city archives have more burial records from across the city - many are not digitised though and they will not search on your behalf (if you are a long way from Glasgow you can pay someone like me to do this for you) https://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/libraries/family-history/stories-and-blogs-from-the-mitchell/ask-the-archivist/ask-the-archivist-cemeteries-and-crematoria
  5. Look for similar records / burial records from the county or town where she was from as she may well have been buried there in a family plot.

Thank you so much Genie. Lots of possible routes there. I think it'll be pretty difficult given the circumstances, but that's a great start .
