Hi
Can anyone help with these please?
The 1st name circled? Looks like John but with an S on the end🤔Surname is definitely Hogan.

The address, it's Portobello Barracks Dublin I think and possibly 43🤔 but not sure on the rest.

Thank you.

Amiens Street

Snoopystick · 14/01/2023 16:08

Think John and then middle initial as ‘S’

Kerning · 14/01/2023 16:11

John Hogan - what looks like an S is just the first upright of the letter H I think. Could be wrong.

And Amiens Street as Snoopystick said.

steppemum · 14/01/2023 16:14

I think that what looks like an S could actually be the first stroke of the H for Hogan?
If it is an S (and it does look like the S in St on other bit) then is it Hogan? Surely the H is then incomplete?

definitely 43 Amiens Street though.

Agree that the 's' is actually part of the H.

steppemum · 14/01/2023 16:15

do you have the rest of the page? That handwriting is quite distinctive, so if you could find another H that would help see how it is written.

Quinque · 14/01/2023 16:18

I agree with previous posters, the names are joined together so it reads JohnHogan. The address is 43 Amiens St.

Tacsi · 14/01/2023 16:21

Thank you all.
Didn't even occur to me about the H ,but the more I look at it ,the more it definitely looks like the beginning of the H starts at end of John
Thanks 👍

I agree, John Hogan. The upright of the H has been tacked into the end of John by someone writing quickly. And Amiens St.

Could it be 93 Amiens Street? I've just looked up the Electoral rolls for 1914 (1st one that came to hand....) and there doesn't seem to be a 43 listed but there is a 93.

Oh,thanks for the this👍
I've googled it till I was blue in the face, but couldn't work it out. I was very unsure about the numbers,I kept thinking 43 but for some reason it wasn't sitting 100%

Possibly Julius Logan.

steppemum · 16/01/2023 12:01

for street numbers, they usually go along the street, so if it is no. 43 the entry before shoudl be for 41 and the one after for 45.
Same if it is for 93. The other 4s or 9s might be better written.

LadyEloise1 · 18/01/2023 14:29

There is a 43 Amiens street. A Mary Whelan lived in it in 1914 according to that list @WeegieWan posted.

So there is! I didn't go right to the bottom of the list because I thought it was all in numerical order, but clearly not - well done you for spotting that. Well there you go OP - can you work out from the names (and possibly occupations - is one a shopkeeper or worker?) which is the most likely address?

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 20/01/2023 00:02

Could it be 4b Amiens St?
