Re-jigging of house numbers

The house I grew up in was on what was once known as the ‘south’ part of the road. Later on the south was removed and it’s all known as one road now.
How would I find out how and when the road was changed ?

I have had this, either relies moved along the road between census or they renumbered houses as the street developed! I think the latter but can't prove it. Another road was renamed in 1930s, established by electoral rolls, comparing old maps (National Library of Scotland have them online for UK) and knowing the family did not move house. Another address was later included in a different road name, again worked out by electoral roll entries and asking on a local history fb group.

Would suggest the house numbering team or officer at your local council. My team do this function and we have records going back many, many years. Your council might also have an LLPG officer. Different councils call them different names.

Or local studies library/museum if your area has one.

Local history section of the library might be able to help. Our street was renumbered several decades after it was built (from anti-clockwise to clockwise). It must have caused so many headaches with post and deeds and mortgages.
