Ancestry (library edition) is free to access atm whilst libraries closed

Just thought I'd let you family history researchers know that I realised that (some?) libraries have made the ancestry library edition free for their members whilst libraries are closed. I didn't know that it used to be free from library computers, but I suppose that makes sense. Anyway I'm going to make the most of it during lockdown! ...search your local library website and you can hopefully see the link and log on with your library card number and pin number. If you aren't a library member, I hope you can set that up online.

Does find my past have more/different searches than ancestry?

The main thing I look at findmypast is for the 1939 register, but I am not a family history person, just a library person. In fact I am not sure if the 1939 might be on both anyway!?

They overlap a lot but each has some unique things. Even with the things they both have indexing varies and it can be worth trying both.

Thanks for this op!

My subscription ran out months ago and was debating whether to renew it. Completely forgot that the library has ancestry.
Although haven’t been a library member for years just looked on my local website and have managed to do an online application for a virtual membership.
Just need to wait for my library number and pin and I’m good to go👍🏼

So excited to read this - but turns out my library isn't doing any online stuff while they're closed which is such a shame.
