What does this say?
Rae36 · 11/11/2020 11:18
Can anyone read this for me please? I don't have great eyesight at the best of times and can't quite figure out what especially the second half of this paragraph says.
My grandfather's war records are pretty lacking in detail so it would be good to know I had properly understood the few things it does say.
Thank you experts

A competent (acronym) driver of all types of service vehicles. Reliable, trustworthy and of sober habits.

I suppose the acronym is NCO? But you probably knew that bit :)

A competent N.C.O driver of all types of service vehicles something something and of something habits.
Thats all I can make out

Could the acronym me NCO - Non-commissioned officer? Corporals/sergeants.
LaMadrilena · 11/11/2020 11:28
"Reliable, trustworthy, and of (something) habits." Safe? Sane?
Rae36 · 11/11/2020 11:36
Trustworthy, of course.
If it's "of sober habits" then that is quite ironic considering he struggled with alcoholism all of his later life.
5 years service boiled down to just these few words, what a shame. But everyone played their part in the war, even if they were just driving trucks. My son has been trying to find out more about his service and was hoping for something way more interesting.

@Rae36 Is there a regimental museum? They might have a lot more there, and you could possibly find out whether he saw active service or not.
It says all types of vehicles... so presumably that could also include tanks, motorbikes, the lot, so not just trucks.
