Saving the past to digital format

Hi, not sure where to post this
I have about 2000 photos of family history: more modern stuff in standard 64 or 75 prints, plus a lot of older photos going back to 1920’s in all sorts of format.
They take up a ton of space, never really get looked at as shoved in cupboard...I want them digitalised so they can be stored safely online and shared with family members
Has anyone got advice on how they did this? There are companies now offering this but they charge ~£250 for that many- has anyone used that sort of service and was it worth it? I could invest that much if it is really worth it
Alternatively if you’ve done this yourself what scanner did you use? Did you buy something specific for photos, or did you just take pictures of prints on your mobile etc? What is best...
If doing it myself any hints and tips for making it quicker other than lots of gin to avoid tedium🤣
Thanks everyone

I had plans to do it but kids got in the way. From my research the best way is to photograph them but with a very high res camera (try to borrow a digital slr or similar). Make a setup stand with a diffuse light source (light bounced off sheet) and tripod and work through them one evening. Try not to open the gin until near the end!
Store multiple copies at relatives house in case of fire etc.

Thanks peajotter...I do have an old high res camara...so that seems an option...quicker than me scanning .....
