I would love to know more about my Grandad and if he fought in the war etc. No one to ask as I have no family.

I know my Nana's brother died in WW2 and us remembered on a memorial 100's of miles from his home that I just happen to live twenty minutes from.

I haven't seen BGT but I have ancestry, it's very interesting to know your roots, and what your immediate family cam from.
Sometimes it's obvious how certain personality traits or in some cases careers were similar to our ancestors.

I've never lived with family so it's always hard for me.

Year

Me neither, well, I had/have a lovely family but I'm adopted.
I only had my bm name to go with. I started it so I could at least tell my dc something about their roots.
I got the bug though and 10 years later am still doing it.
all you need is a name, an area would help too.
I would offer to get you started from my account but I have so many trees on the go atm.
Some people will research for you for a cost, but have no idea how much they charge.
My ancestry subscription is my B'day present from the kids every year. It's about £100 give or take.

That's so kind of you to offer, thank you. I'll have to leave it for now as can't justify £100.

Have just remembered most of the paid for sites do a free trial, it's quite safe as long as you remember to cancel after the trial.
It should be long enough to get you quite a way back. If you find an area that has lots of your family ancestors, you can search the church records for free.

I sent you a pm.
