My dilemma is in the title! Both cost about the same but I can't work out which is genuinely the better product as I am a little blinded by the Apple marketing machine. Has anyone got any thoughts or owned both phones?

I got the desire free - £15 a month gets me unlimited internet, unltd texts and 250 mins talk but because ive had endless chew they have whacked it down to £10 a month so i gladly accepted that contract for 2 yrs! . Thats with orange.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 28/06/2010 21:44

That's a ridiculously good deal, I presume you say the desire is free but you had to pay for your xperia?

Nope the xperia was free.

Orange's 3g coverage is great. I've almost always got an HDSPA or 3g signal, unlike dp who is on o2 and spends most of the time throwing his iphone across the car or wherever we are at the time cos he has no 3g!

I've been with orange for about 3years now and have always found their cs to be good. They do this best deal thing whereby every 6months they adjust your contract to suit your usage. They also give you a loyalty discount every year. They also seem to be the only network that still gives you unlimited 3g & wi-fi. DP's peed off as he's just found out that o2 have slashed his from unlimited to 500mb a month.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 29/06/2010 21:15

I thought Orange had a 1G fair usage policy for 3g?

They probably do tbh, although I don't think most people would go near that. I only have a 250mb bundle added to my dolphin contract atm but go nowhere near that limit and I use my 3g a fair bit.

Intresting.... I have been holding out for the iphone4, now am holding out for an improved iphone after hearing about the problems it has already, but am wondering if I am being abit of a sheep. DH says anything else just isn't the iphone, and I have wanted one for years [patient] but I have been oggling the desire. I just ordered DH an x10 though (his sony something or another is costing more in repair excess' that it's worth despite about 10 months to run on the contract) and reading this maybe I should have got him the Desire so I could pinch it for MNing in the car Anyone have an opinion on iphone4 vs desire vs Xperia X10?

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 29/06/2010 22:00

Please dont get an x10 - i have had 2 x10 xmperia minis in the last 2 weeks - terrible phone - awful - lovely looking but shocking. It goes back tomorrow in favour of the desire.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 30/06/2010 08:14

Sorry Secret don't know anything about the xperia, I have done a LOT of research between iphone4 and desire and apart from the iphone4 battery which is suppose to be a huge improvement the desire wins hands down.

I didn't get the mini, just the brick normal one. I think it comes tomorrow, am thinking of sending back and getting a desire now

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 30/06/2010 18:42

My desire is here today . Its charging as i type - it will let me send over my contacts wont it from my old phone to my sim (unlike my xperia which wouldnt allow this) - it is easy isnt it?? it looks like a high tec peice of kit.

CherylAnnTweedy · 30/06/2010 19:24

If it's like the hero nappyzone, then it's very easy to use. I was able to get mine out of the box nd got on with it straight away. I still sruggle with dp's iphone (although ds2 who is 4 has no probs with either. )

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 30/06/2010 20:03

lol it took me ages to delete the text message i got sent at set up because i could not get the screen back on - it transfered my numbers over nicely so im going to abuse it when i have stopped mumsnetting.

varicoseveined · 30/06/2010 21:18

HTC Desire/Android fan here too. I've got so many apps on mine, can't wait for the next Android update

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 01/07/2010 22:31

omg its fab - the apps for free are ace - i have just downloaded a free running app which will track my distance/ cals burned and speed pace - i feel a run coming on! Totally fab peice of kkit

MilkNoSugarPlease · 01/07/2010 22:55

It's fabulous isn't it

SO glad I didn't bow to the Iphone demands

oenophilia · 01/07/2010 23:00

Even my very geeky DS1 has reluctantly admitted that my Desire is pretty good. It's my first smart phone and I agonised for weeks about what to get, but I got the hang of it quickly & already can't imagine what it would be like without it. Anyway, Steve Jobs is rich enough without me adding to his pile.

gerontius · 01/07/2010 23:03

I think the chairman of HTC's doing pretty well for herself as well.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cher_Wang

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 02/07/2010 16:55

Can anyone tell me - when doing texts can you get smiley faces on it as i cant seem to see them - are they hidden somewhere or this phone only for sensible peeps?

notanidea · 02/07/2010 18:07
