I've just been playing with both in the o2 shop today and have the same decision to make.

I likes the HTC better today from what I saw, it seems quicker, more intuitive to use, I seem to be able to type better on it.

I've heard the iphone has a slightly better battery, though the woman there said there really is no difference and any smart phone will really only last a day.

I don't know how easy it is to put my itunes music onto a non apple phone?

Apple at the minute seem to have more and better apps though the amount of android apps is increasing at a huge rate.

I know someone who has an iphone and her DH has a Desire and she now wants a Desire.

If you are considering any Android phones, first thing I'd ask is what version of Android is running.

Android 2.2 is the recent release, so perhaps allow a month or two for it to be in phones in the shops, but should be worth getting.

When you find a phone with Android 2.2 on it, check that you can turn the phone into a wireless hotspot. It would mean that if you later had other items (like iPod Touch, or an iPad without 3G built in) they could use the wi-fi link to your Android while your Android phone made the internet connection via your mobile network company.

(Would look for O2 offering Android as they might offer most generous data contracts, compared with other networks.)

I've heard Android 2.2 is coming out by the end of June. I'll definetly go for the HTC then as it means I could take my laptop camping and have wifi!

Do, please, make sure they allow you to use your data allowance that way, before you are hit for hundreds of pounds!

I assume you are camping in the UK, so 'roaming' charges won't apply, but do be sure no-one gets carried away with streaming football commentary from FiveLive or using YouTube or iPlayer to watch some soap/sport/whatever.

This audio stream is encoded at 56kbps. Listening for 30mins would therefore equate to approx 12.3MB of data traffic. It may take a few moments for streams to open, depending on network coverage/connection speed.

There was a big "DATA COST WARNING" on the page in the bbc.co.uk/mobile section, when I tried listening to FiveLive

Someone on O2 in Europe can be charged 3 pounds per MB (ie 36+ pounds er half hour of FiveLive!) Charge is 6 pounds per MB outside Europe (EU). In the UK, it is getting common to see fees of 5 pounds per GB (1024 MB) on PAYG, and on a contract it may be as low as 50p per GB, so my Three fee is 7.50/month for 15 GB
