hi

is there anyone who can help me? My itunes library is on a laptop that is nearing the end of its life. I want to transfer the library to my new laptop.

FIrst off all I copied the itunes folder to my external hard drive, then installed itunes on the new computer and tried to import the library, via import folder. HOwever although it will show the song details the actually file does not appear to be there. I then managed to wipe my ipod trying to sync it to the new computer. I've got so frustrated i've just uninstalled itunes from my new computer.

I'm guessing I'm not 'copying' the itunes library correctly but it's driving me mad.

Also additionally, why does itunes allow you to upload duplicates?

Any help gratefully received

you just download the itunes app to your new comp, then 'authorise' the computer....at the top of itunes under advanced or one of the tabs.....thats it!! ready to go...no need to put anything on hard drive etc

you can have up to 5 computers authorised with the one itunes account

Do you need to move the music to the new computer? Not sure if this is what you want to do , but if so

Sync your music library to your iPod.
Down load music rescue - google kennet music rescue.
You can back then sync the music from the iPod to the iTunes library on your pc.

hi 3blondeboys and welshdeb

Yes I need to move the library as I don't think the computer will be going much longer.

I basically want this computer to be the one with my library on it without having to reload all my CDs.

I will try the music rescue.

Thanks!!

The music itself might not actually be in the iTunes folder, it depends on how you've set iTunes up.

Probably the simplest way to do this is to run up iTunes and then open up your external disk using either Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac). Select all of your music (Edit/Select All when you're viewing your whole library) and then drag them all off to the disk.

Then on the other computer select all the files in the folder you copied the music to (Edit/Select All again should so the trick) and then drag it into iTunes.
