Can anyone help me with my Windows calendar?

i've never used the calendar facility on Windows before as at work we have our own in-house system. I'm on the laptop at home trying to create a calendar for when I go back to work after mat leave. It's showing DH's work (he does shifts so it's not regular), plus childcare arrangements for both DSs. I want to colour code each separate thing (so DH's work one colour, who is looking after DS1 another colour, DS2 another colour etc.) I can only see how to change the colour of all the appointments within the calendar (so I can make everything pink, or blue, or some unidentified beige colour). Is there a way of getting different colours in there depending on the type of entry? I want to print it off and give it to the relevant people so they can see instantly when they are looking after the boys and for how long.
Hope that makes sense and someone can help me!

I'm not sure what you mean by Windows calender as my computer doesn't have a specific calender app, (unless you mean Outlook).

However, for home calenders we actually use Gmail calender instead. My gmail calender has mine, my DW's and a google supplied (bank) holidays calender.

You can add multiple calenders and designate the colours (although on printing, its the surrounding line that is coloured not the fill).

Thanks for replying - it's not Outlook, which is what I'm used to using at work, but specifically called Windows Calendar. Maybe I'll just have to use marker pens once I've printed it off to give to everybody!
Will take a look at the gmail calendar too as that sounds a bit more useful

Windows Calendar is something that came with Windows Vista and, I presume, Windows 7.

If you can assign a colour to a calendar can you just use multiple calendars to represent different types of appointments?
