The closest size they do is 20x24 - how do I do it so that I can cut it down without ruining the photo? Is there a better way to do it??

I'd put a web link in for a (photographer) friend but you are probably best off contacting a few in your vicinity, by e-mail/ phone.

Does the picture work as a square

If you have an electronic copy of it just crop it to see if it 'works'

If it does than order the rectangle & cut it down

Why not get it printed smaller, then have the card mount cut to fit both the frame and the aperture you require? Art shops/framers all cut mounts to specification - take in your frame and your picture, they'll do a great job. I'm a photographer and do this all the time as I'm rubbish at cutting my own mounts!

Thanks everyone. The photos do work well as squares - if I order them as 24x20, will the bottom bit just be blank?

Slight problem - my photos aren't high enough res for that size so i'm going to have to get the big camera out. I think it's 10 mega pixels - is that high enough for prints of that size?

Go to a more independant photo shop, they should be able to do it for you.

I got some 20 x 20 square photos printed using Photobox - you upload your piccie and select the square size and then crop it - so is easy to see what you will get. They are very quick to send them as well.

website is this

The 10Mp should be ok as I used some photos from my camera which is 8Mp. I got them mounted as my frame were 23cm, and the framer thought they were professional pictures as they were so crisp!

thanks Andro - just been on the the site and can't see 20x20 being an option...... where is it??

I think 12"x12" is the biggest square print that Photobox offer. But using a card mount (looks better anyway than filling the frame) this won't be a problem.

ChequeredFlag · 03/05/2010 11:48

But www.allposterprint.com do up to 1m square prints, the 50cm square ones (20") are less than a tenner.

BrownPaperandString · 03/05/2010 15:52

oh that's great thanks for that! What is the minumum size photo I would need to be able to enlarge to that size?

Sorry for confusing Brownpaperand string - cant convert cm to inches very well! I must have got the 8 x 8 inches pictures and then had them mounted to fit the 20cm frames! It all makes sense now as chequredflag suggests - mountng makes the piccies look better!

Hope you get sorted!

If I remember right - these sites usually tell you if the original picture is too small a resolution to enlarge. I have used 5 mega pixels and that has been ok.
