Hello,

My Name Is Mark, I am currently in progress of setting up a flash games website with a difference. It is our plan to make a website that gamers of ALL ages are able to enjoy, I have done a lot of gaming in my 19 years of life and have noticed a lot of correlation in how these website work. We plan to be different.

As i said , Our goal is to make an environment for all gamers, Lets face it , most of them will be 11-16 ( Been there done that skived lessons playing flash games in school )

We plan to make an environment that even 11 year old could approach and feel safe in. How? Well in many ways that is why I have posted here. We have many plans, some of which are just nutty and some of which require a lot of caffeine but at the end of the day... I'm 19, what I consider a safe environment may not be what you, the parent consider safe. We are not just looking to make a site to play games, we want to build a community and push across the need for awareness online.

So what am i asking? Bellow is a list of things the site will be implementing. I would appreciate if you could comment, attack and rip apart these ideas to make realistic goals.

  1. We plan not to take any personal details, excluding DoB.
  2. DoB Will not be stored
  3. DoB will be used to generate a "Gamer Age" such as JR Gamer, or Elite elder.
  4. Gamers under 16 will be restricted to what games they can play ( ratings will be based on a set criteria to be decided upon at a later date )
  5. Guests will be unable to play 16+ rated games ( once again rating will be decided by us )
  6. Gamers of younger ages will be unable to comment or read comments.
  7. No Google Adds

-- Cheers , Mark.

If you're not going to be storing the DoB then how will you be able to control what games a gamer can access? True enough you could store it in a Cookie on the users machine but might it be annoying for a user to have to re-enter it whenever the Cookie is lost?

If there's a distinct "two tier" type of platform where being 16+ gains you access to all sorts of extras (games and comments) then might children just be tempted to lie about their age?
