Probelms with Zip folders & emails & virus protection

Somewhere I regularly email wants what I send password protected

Occasionally there are PDF's to send too

Can you password protect a PDF?
Or zip it into a folder which can be emailed (but the virus protection won't accept it)?

Is there an easy way to fix this?

Depending on how "stupid" the virus protection (and do you mean virus protection or a corporate email security system?) is you could try renaming the file from "myfile.zip" to "myfile.txt" and telling the person at the other end to repeat the process.

Oh!......I think maybe a corporate email security system

PDF files can be password protected, but not all software that produces PDF files can do it: if there isn't an obvious option then your software probably can't do it.

If it is your anti-virus that is preventing you from sending the encrypted attachment you need to disable it somehow.

If the problem is on the receiving end, they need to think through the conflict between their business requirements and their security configuration.

You could try using yousendit.com or some other service (if you are already using dropbox.com you could share the file and send the link).

OK as a first call try that renaming the file trick, that will often do the job with corporate firewalls that just look for the .zip extension and block them (and that's most corporate firewalls in my experience).

Thanks I'll give it a go
