I need to buy it for Word and Powerpoint, is 2007 the latest one? I've seen a 2010 one (called 'Beta') but not sure if this is actally out yet?

Does the 2007 work fine with Vista? Ta

Office 2010 is due out this year. "Beta" means a test version of a package. Very often with "Beta" software there's no guarantee that it will work or that it won't break your computer. So unless you're a very curious techy it's best avoided.

Office 2007 should work fine with Vista.

Unless you're very very sure that you need Office why don't you try one of the free alternatives such as OpenOffice.org ?

Thanks Badger. I have just bought Office 2007 as I really need that one (I think) as I have to prepare a Powerpoint presentaton for an interview so don't want to risk using something else that's not compatible with the laptop at the interview!

I was still using Office 2003 so I'm well overdue an upgrade.

I also found out that the 2010 one won't be out til June this year too so too late for me!

Actually much of the business world is still on Office 2003 so to be safe, make sure you save your file as a 'Powerpoint 97-2003 Presentation'.

You will find Office 2007 takes a lot of getting used to

yy ilikeyoursleeves - follow mranchovy's advice. You wouldn't be able to open a 2007 PowerPoint file on most of my work pcs, so save as 97-2003.

Oh, and if you don't want to spend any money, you can download the Office 2010 Beta for free which will work until October.

BadgersPaws · 27/01/2010 08:19

The Beta might be free but it also might do all sorts of bad things.

It could break documents or even corrupt the machine itself.

Yes that's a "might" and a "could" but there's no guarantee or protection with Beta software.
