Has anyone used Open Office on Linux?

Now there's a geeky question for you.

I'm thinking about buying a Linux OS netbook, but I want to use Word documents on it, and be able to send said documents to people running MS Windows OSs. Just want to check that people have done this without losing all the formatting in the Word documents (which would be disastrous for me, I'm a formatting monkey).

thanks Policywonk. all sounds good so far. [thumbs up]

You can also change the default save format in OpenOffice.

odt files do have compatibility issues with MS Word. I use Open Office, but if I'm sending a word document to someone I save it as a pdf (there's a PDF button at the top - v easy - just click the button!). Or you can save it as a word file, but I like the PDF way better.

yes agree pdf is a good format to send documents in - especially quotes and the like - as they cannot be so easily edited.

Well, I very much love my dinky little netbook - took it to bed last night to read the Moldie thread

The pdf thing wouldn't work for me as I need to send Word files for other people to work on. (Not an issue any more though as this one has XP.)

Thanks for coming back policywonk. I think I'll get one ordered too.
