Laptop overheating and cutting out. Is it

worth a trip to the computer shop?

Or at 3 1/2 years old is it doomed?

What normally causes these things?

Dust in the fan grill, apply vacuum nozzle.

Free airflow? not on cushion / duvet?

Might just need a new sensor!! not pricey - well gf's wasn't.

Fluff and gunk in the air outlet, broken or tired cooling fan, plus hot weather.

Had a desktop PC that did this. You can buy new cooling fans or rip them out of an old PC.

We had this - as we keep laptop on carpet under sofa

We sent it back to manufacturer who cleaned it out but tbh it was never the same again.

Most computer shops wont touch laptops as they have to be opened in a sterile environment apparently

But yes, it should be stored on hard surface (tray/desk) away from fluff/dust/hair etc

Dp (IT blokey) says if hoovering the grill doesn't work try opening the laptop up and carefully dusting around with a paintbrush. Don't use the hoover inside as it's delicate.

Get a set of laptop riser feet, clean vents etc apply laptop feet and keep it somewhere solid at all times.
