I have last year's windows vista on a laptop with mobile broadband.
Have only used it for internet so far and emails.
How do I find WORD to write documents etc?
Have WORKS and a Free trial of Microsoft Office but can't understand how to make them function or even if they are the right bit.
Dh says I need to download special software.
Last time I used office computer was in 1996.

Word will be in the free trial of Microsoft Office, but if its just a trial version then it will probably only work for a month or something before you'd have to buy a full license.

Works has a word processor in it which is fine, and it sounds like you have a full version of that, so I think that's the better option.

Is Works actually installed on the computer, or do you just have it on a disk at the moment?

When you click on the Windows logo in the bottom left hand corner to get the start menu up, there is a box at the bottom with 'Start Search' written in it. Type 'Word' in it and hopefully, a list will appear with 'Microsoft Office Word' as one of the entries. Click on this and it will open 'Word'.

As someone has already said, if its a trial you can probably only use if for a month before you have to buy the program.

If it doesn't appear in the list then you may have to install the trial. Try searching for Office and see if that brings up something with trial and open it.

I went into "all programs" and found something called Work Taskforce Launcher which ws the answer and full of templates etc.
Thank you everyone.
My 7 year old has given me some useful help too she seems to be able to export things freely

No I'm wrong that was something else, more advanced..It was Microsoft Office Word 2007, whereas as you say the Works was a free trial. [stumbles blindly off to practise a bit]

When you start using Office 2007 you can use the little arrow hear the top right hand corner to set yourself up some more shortcuts such as quick print etc. And 'save as' is on the drop down list when you click on the blob right in the rh corner.
It's much better than the old version once you get used to it - it does things like give you a mini meny bar above anything you highlight ao that you can change the font colour, size, embolden etc without flitting the pointer right across the screen.

Hi Swanriver, I'm not quite understanding your last post. You should be able to access the Works word processor using the Task Launcher. There'll be a template for a new blank document, and there should be a list of programmes on the left hand side (at least there is in my older version). A word of warning though - Works documents cannot be opened in any Office software, so if you need to send documents to anyone else I'd recommend you get Microsoft Office if you can.
