we recently got a Mac and I dont really know how to use it.
Anyway I was trying to watch Van Morrison Sessions on iplayer, but after a few minutes the picture dims as if it is saving energy/sleeping. If I move the mouse it comes back.Is it possible to watch more than two minutes without this happening?
Thanks

You need to look for the power saving settings, but I don't know where to look for them on a MAC - I expect someone who does will be along soon, otherwise try the Help file.

Open up the System Preferences (find this through the Apple Menu or it could be one of your dock items)

Click Energy Saver, then choose whether you want to change the Battery settings or the Power Adapter settings (you will probably want to adjust both eventually)

If you can't see anything to change, then click Show Details (just above the padlock icon)

and adjust the settings to something more suited to your needs.

Your screen will dim much quicker if you are just working off the battery so you may also want to watch only if you have the power cable in.

Or sorry have assumed you are on a laptop (i.e. advice re battery)
only because I am currently using a Mac laptop

So you may only have one set of energy saver settings if on a desktop mac

Thanks ten.
I have just looked at Energy saver and it has computer sleep and display sleep, they are both set at ten minutes. There is also a box that says 'automatically reduce display brightness before display sleep' do i uncheck that box? and increase times to say 1 hour?

Yes! I thought; surely this big desktop doesn't have battery. [Homer moment]

If you're watching it on full screen this shouldn't happen - are you watching it just within the browser or full screen?

Have a look at caffeine. It's a little program that puts a coffee cup icon on your menu bar. You click the coffee cup when you want your mac to stay awake (ie not go into energy saving/screen dimming mode).
