So how can I have time out from MN without leaving? Don't want to lose my name!

I read ages ago that it may be possible to block a web address? Can you? And how?

I'm terrible at having MN breaks and always end up wandering back to get involved so thinking that if my computer can't get through to site then I can't MN! so help me leave for a while, but not for too long!

you could always "lose" your internet connection for a while...

But I'll need to get online to do other stuff.

I'm hoping to go back to study in Sept. I'm panicing that I'll constantly be flitting back here and then I'll never get anything done.

Plus I'm spending way to much time on here at the moment too

If I can block MN for a while it may help

I don't know how to do it or I'd do it too, I know what you mean! DH says I'm an MN addict - he might be right

Cheers thumbwitch.

I'll have a scout around under my settings and see if theres a way. I'll let you know!

(but we both secretly know that we can never give it up completely!)

Well any way that you block it you can undo easily enough, but if you just want to make it harder to break the habit there are ways. For example if you add this line to your host file you will get page not found when you try to come here.

127.0.0.1 www.mumsnet.com

The hosts file is generally in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc . You may not have one. If not you will have a sample one called hosts.sam. You have to rename it as just hosts

Other ways include the firewall on the PC which should have an option to block either urls or IP numbers. This is MN's IP and address

213.161.73.140 www.mumsnet.com

Routers also generally have the option to block addresses to protect children, which you could make use of.

If in doubt post the router model or the name of your firewall because someone will know it.
