Ladies, I have the option of getting an iphone - currently have a blackberry which I love, and so far, am liking the look of the iphone - BUT all these swish applications that you see online and on the TV ads, do they cost money to download? If so, are they payable every month, or is it a case of once downloaded and paid for, you don't need to do anything else?

My DH is saying if it is just £35 a month then he is in agreement but anything more forget it!

Thanks for reading and advising!!

DM

The apps are downloaded once and cost nothing more after that. There are a lot of free apps too (sommetimes theres are "light" versions that you can try the app before you buy). You can actually use the iPhone without all the apps, my BIL does, but it adds to the fun.

Apps are optional. Some are free, some need to be paid for, however it is a one off charge.
I love my iPhone and I am sooooo not a gadget person.

thanks for getting back to me so quickly! So if I go for a £35 a month tariff, you don 't think it will be much more than that???????? The unlimited data is presumably surfing on the net for an unspecified amount of time???

can I MN very important!!!!

It varies - most are 59p and they are charged through itunes which is linked to your credit card so it doesnt show on your bill.

MmeLindt · 27/04/2009 11:37

Yes, you can MN. This is one of the best things about the iPhone, MNetting at the play park.

Dozymare · 27/04/2009 13:22

ok - have gone and done it! Thank you so much for your help ladies.....

yes! I've had mine for about 3 weeks! You can download an app called Shape up, which cost about £1.50, and it does the same job as WLR, so you've saved mony there already!

Dozymare · 27/04/2009 13:30

JODIEwantsanewname · 27/04/2009 13:34

yes i am, all web browsing and e-mails are free, and when you register your phone on i-tunes it asks for your card details and all app downloads are charged to that, rather than onto your bill

Dozymare · 27/04/2009 13:36

casn you explain i-tunes to me??? Have got an ipod but DH loaded all the music onto it...will I be able to do that with the phone??? What else is it good for???

OP posts:
JODIEwantsanewname · 27/04/2009 13:38

Yes, it's pretty easy. When you plug in your phone to the computor it will come up in the i-tunes menu as iphone, you can then click and drag any music you want to it. go to the i-tunes store for your apps (there is also n apps key on the phone) then synch the phine when your finished and hey presto!

cestlavie · 27/04/2009 13:46

The i-phone is a thing of wonder and beauty. The apps cost about 59p to £1.99 but you don't really need any/many and there are plenty of great free apps, like Lastfm.

You can sync it directly with i-tunes (like an i-pod) so you can download all your music and use it exactly like an i-pod. Apart from that meaning you've always got your music with you it also means if you're a particularly slack parent (um like myself) you can download videos (Dora, Scooby, Diego etc) and use the phone as a mini TV if you're somewhere you want to keep the kids quiet!

It uses both 3G and wireless so it can browse the web pretty well and pull up all websites - large screen and ability to zoom in and out mean that you can surf virtually the entire web very easily - doesn't cost any more than the tariff. Ditto checking and synching with most e-mail accounts so it can function as a BB.

Also comes with google maps built in so is absolutely fantastic as a personal GPS - really rather useful if you live in London and are walking around lost, but works passably well as a sat nav especially over shorter distances.

Only downsides are that it is bulkier than normal phones and the text function is poor - slow keyboard and you can't forward messages or contacts which be a bit annoying.

MmeLindt · 27/04/2009 15:22

I have read that there is an update coming in the summer that will improve text messaging. I agree that it is terrible, and no MMS is just a joke.

That is the only downside.

There are some good games for DC as applications, great when waiting in a restaurant.
