Just came on my laptop, which my daughter uses to chat on MSN, her log on automatically come on, her front page appeared with a link attachment, I clicked on it and it went to a sex site. I closed it down and then one of her friends then signed in and said look at this, I opened the conversation and there was the link again. Her friend was asking my dd to look at it. I sent a message to her friend telling her it was me and asking where it had come from, she didn't reply and signed off.

I have now signed out of my dd msn, and don't have a clue what her password is, so can't go in to check it/delete it - any advice on how I can protect this kind of thing happening again, or shall I just delete MSN, as clearly it can't be trusted ???

Thanks

Install K9 Web Protection and take back control.

well if she is allowed email then presumably friend would be able to email link as well? so getting rid of msn might not cut it. I think you need to have a talk with your DD about your feelings on the whole issue and can you put limits on what kind of sites your computer can use?

I have already had many chats with her about these things (she's 11) she can only use the lap top at the dining table, so I am always close by, she can't get away with anything, and to be honest, she is very good. As far as I know this is the first time it has happended. Will look at that link now doodle thanks

Thanks for the K9 link, just downloaded it, rebooted system and her MSN page came up again, there again was the sex link, I tried to look again, but k9 blocked it. So it worked. Thank you

HI, I think your daughter might be innocent as I am having the same problem with msn, I have tried to sort it but can?t, so anyone with any idea?s to get rid of these persistent messages please post here as I for one do not wish to have them on my msn, for other reasons I can?t delete msn.

I am also getting these rude links from my 12 year old neice, they are sent when she is at school or on the middle of the night when i know she is not online.
how can we stop them?

PurpleOne · 03/05/2009 01:59

It's not for Adult friend finder is it?

We've been having exactly the same problems.
The only thing I did was to delete her MSN and set her up with a new acct.
Anti virus won't get it.

actually golds, before you jump in and think your dd and her friends are sharing rude links, chances are one of them has got a virus of somesort that automatically sends out these messages to anyone that is online.
"check who has blocked you on msn, click here now!" is one that also seems to be doing the rounds at the minute too.

Polgara2 · 04/05/2009 10:34

It is definitely a virus or worm of some sort from MSN which activates when you sign off and sends the links to your contact list. Apparently one of the first ways to stop it is to change your password. One of dd's friends has it so we blocked her and she has now changed her password but that reminds me we haven't unblocked her to try it! Failing that new account as suggested. If you google it there are suggestions out there.
