This is a bit annoying ...

when I open Google and type in the search box a list of suggestions (not my previous search terms)pops up - so I go to Preferences and click the box that says Do not provide query suggestions in the search box, but every time I log on again it has reverted back to how it was - is there a way of keeping the no suggestions option? It is v annoying and also prevents me from quickly spying on what the DSs have been looking at. Thanks geeky people

Deleted cookies?

whoingodsnameami · 14/04/2009 11:55

I mean deleting cookies.

Snorbs · 14/04/2009 12:00

Google search preferences are saved as a cookie on your computer. If you've got your computer set up so it's not saving cookies, or to automatically delete them (as a privacy thing) then it'll default back to showing suggested search terms.

thank you, how do I check about saving cookies, its Firefox by the way

Assuming you're running Firefox 3, click on the Tools menu, then Options, then pick the Privacy tab.

In the Cookies section, make sure that "Accept cookies from sites" is ticked, as is "Accept third-party cookies". In the "Keep until" box, choose "they expire" (if "I close Firefox" is chosen, it'll delete all cookies when you shut down Firefox).

In the Private Data section, if "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox" is ticked, then click on the Settings button to the right and make sure that "Cookies" isn't ticked.

Does that make any sense?

Many thanks Snorbs, i have just checked all that and the only difference is that Always clear my private data is not ticked, the other option is chosen - ask me first I think it said. So I closed Firefox down and opened it again and I'm sSTILL getting the suggestions in Google.
Its Firefox 3.0.8 by the way. Maybe I will just have to put up with it? Thanks anyway.
