What can I do after the analogue TV switch off?

Hi - can anyone help me?
Next month they are going to turn off our analogue TV signal. Downstairs i have a freeview box thing. Upstairs my aged mother has a little portable TV using normal signal. When our aerial was put in, the installer said the signal wouldn't be strong enough to split and run two TVs.

Would a satellite like the free satellites you see advertised be able to run two sets? What do other people do?

Also, really stupid question. Does one TV licence cover more than one set in the house? Have only every paid for one and now afraid I should be paying extra for each set.

You could buy another set top box and yes your licence covers as many TV's as you have in your house.

Problem is - by teh sounds of it another set top box won't suit as the signal won't be strong enough to power 2 set top boxes.

You could have another aerial fitted to power a second set top box.

A Sky dish will power up to 4 boxes I think (or Sky+ +2 boxes as sky+ counts as 2 boxes).

An no a TV licence is per household.

You can use an active splitter (ie one with an amplifier) to feed as many TVs as you like. I think your installer just wanted to sell you another aerial

The other thing to take into accoutn is that once the analogue signal is switched off, the digital signal will probably be stronger.

Thanks, everyone. Gives me some ideas to go to the TV shop with.

You can get freesat from the BBC - no subs etc like with sky.

That looks interesting.
