Look at this page

Here's one answer from it:
"An inkjet printer uses ink cartridges, a laser printer uses toner.

With an inkjet printer, ink is sprayed on the page. With a laser printer, toner is charged and fused on to the page using heat

Inkjets are typically used for home use and laserink is used in large companies with very high volume.

An inkjet is more slated for home use. The printer is not generally built for heavy office use. Ink cartridges are usually about $50. Beating the toner at $150-400 per cartridge. Both Inkjet and laser printers come in Black and white use as well as color."

Toner cartridges may be more expensive initially, but they last for much longer than an inkjet cartridge and they are much cheaper in the long run.

Also inkjet cartridges can clog if left unused for a while. Laser cartridges will not clog.

Finally ink may run if drinks are dropped on it. This will not happen with a laser printer.

one uses a lot less energy...but I don't know which!
