Has anyone got one and would you recommend it? My DH needs a computer just to take on trips to archives abroad. He doesn't want or need anything fancy. We do have an portable, external hard drive.

We also have the possibility of a two-year old laptop, which originally cost £1000 but is reconditioned and going for £200.

We have a laptop for general use but he can't use that as I need to mumsnet.

What do you reckon?

I have a toshiba NB100 that I was given for christmas

it is fab and soooo small and light.

I would say that the keyboard is quite small and I haven't got used to it yet

You know it's true

I like the Asus Eee. It's cheap and tiny. The battery life isn't great, but it does the job.

Oh, if he has fairly thick fingers I wouldn't recommend it though - be sure to try out the keyboard somewhere, rather than just buying it online, as the keys are tiny.

Would you go for new notebook or second-hand (2 years old) laptop?

personally I would go for a new one if there is not much price difference. The speed etc will be so much better, and you aren't inheriting problems, and you have warranty. Not as green though

Thanks. Got to start researching models now.
