Anyone have a mobile phone with O2 as their service provider?

My phone is just a pay-as-you-talk one. I bought it about 4 months ago. Today they have sent me a new SIM card with some advice that says if I activate the new SIM card and put £10 on to the phone I will get £30 of free calling credit

To me this seems odd - why would it be in their interests for me to change to another SIM card.

For me it actually would be an advantage, as a few people have my number who I would prefer not. But I'm suspicious.....

Anyone know what this could be about?

I have one but I have no idea what you are on about

Oh dear.....but do you have a pay as you go one?

O2 sent me a new SIM card for my phone. So they are encouraging me to take out the one that was with the phone when I bought it. This means I will have to change my telephone number. It just says that if I put £10 onto the phone with the new SIM card in it, I will receive £30 of free credit.

I got that too - figured it was just marketing crap and binned it

No - ring them and ask! It could be that it's nothing to do with your existing number.

Thanks for replies. Ponders - I think if you change your SIM card you have to change your number usually don't you?

No, you don't need to change your number. I've had the same number for years and am even on the 3rd provider. Are you sure it's a SIM with a different number?

ElectraInExcelsis · 21/12/2008 00:36

Yeah, I think so - it is just like the little packet that always comes in the box when you buy a phone.....

EIE, it is possible to transfer your existing number on to the new SIM, even with PAYG (& even if you change companies)

Ring O2 & check out the details of this offer; if you want to take them up on it but keep your old number they will send you a PAC code. When you get that you ring them again & they'll tell you how to switch - you do get cut off for a couple of hours in the middle but that's all.

Thanks Ponders
