Grrr. The bloody Matrix DVD has been stuck in our mac for months now. I keep trying the conventional eject function but it won't work.

Anybody got any ideas, please?

Generally DVD players have a tiny hole near the button which you push a pin into to release the disk.

Yes, an unfolded paper clip works wonders. If it's the version with just a slit, push the clip in at the right hand edge and press hard.

Yes, the DVD is showing on the desktop.

So it knows it's in there.

Then I drag the icon to the trash, the computer whirrs as if it's ejecting, the DVD icon disappears and then reappears.

'Tis very annoying.

Do you know, I'm going to try the paper clip! Nothing to lose! Thank you for your help.

From Mac Help - think the restart thing worked for me

If you can?t eject a CD or DVD, try the following:

â–
Quit all applications that are using files on the disc, and try again.

â–
Open Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder), select the disc, and choose File > Eject.

â–
Choose Apple menu > Restart, and then hold down the mouse or trackpad button until the disc ejects.

â–
If your drive has an emergency eject hole, put the computer to sleep and insert a large, straightened paper clip in the small emergency eject hole of the drive (the location varies, depending on the drive). Push firmly until the disc ejects.

â–
If all other methods fail, you can try to eject the disk using the firmware. (This may not work on all computers. For example, it does not work on Intel-based computers.)

That's what mine used to do.

BTW I was referring to the old coloured imac where stuck discs were a regular occurrence, fingers crossed with the lovely new one I've not had any problems.
