safe internet searching at home

If you let your kid go on the internet at home, what system do you use to block unsavoury sites?

I have a MacBook and so far the kids use Safari and can only access sites on their bookmarks bar. If they want to see a different site they have to ask my permission and I then log in as administrator to add it to the bar.

I'm thinking I'd like to let ds1 search using Google but I don't want him to have unlimited access to all the awful stuff on the web. I already have Google set to 'safesearch' but I'm also thinking of using Glubble. Has anyone else used it or do you have other recommendations?

I tend to let mine use Yahoo with safe search logged on (I keep Google non-safe searchy for me!). I have tried specific kids search sites but to be honest their interface and the way they displayed results were a lot to be desired. Plus by using Yahoo or Google with safe search you're still teaching them how to use a common search engine that they're likely to use at school.

That said though, I haven't tried Glubble. Also, even safe searches aren't going to be foolproof and shouldn't really be a substitute for supervision.

Thanks RubberDuck.

As you can see by the times I post on mn, I am not a morning person either.
