It is not doing anything. The light on the battery pack is flashing. I have tried a new cable but that one does the same thing.

Any ideas?

Recommendations? I use the computer for MNetting, emails, calender and iTunes are synchronized with my iPhone (thank God I have it or I would be lost. Don't play games.

I love my macbook.

rislip · 28/11/2008 18:04

Oh I had a Dell before and it was rubbish. Now I've got a lovely Sony Vaio and it's great. Nice big screen and really fast. I love it. Definitely recommend it.

MmeLindt · 28/11/2008 18:20

My old one was a cheap one. Is it worth spending the extra for a decent one?

Yes, it is.

I have the 2.4 ghz one of these, it is a thing of beauty and wonder

I bought a new laptop on wednesday in Staples after visiting John Lewis and PC World - paid £342 compared to the cheapest web deal (and in the shop) at PC World of £379 - it's their 'deal of the week'

2 gig processor
3 gig memory
160 gig hard drive

very happy with this cheapy laptop - big screen (15.4) and relatively smart looking

I bought another cheapy laptop 2 and a half years ago and it was roughly the same price and about 5 times slower - things have really moved on even in this time.

They removed the vat which wouldn'y have been done til monday and threw in a lovely 4gig black leather external usb drive and leather journal (which I will be giving to some poor sap at Christmas )

Laurie
You see this is what I am wondering. I bought my cheap laptop 2 1/2 years ago too for about 500euros. If I had bought a 800eu one it might still be working and I would not now have the hassle of trying to save all my data.

Maybe not mmelindt. Dh bought his just over 3 years ago for 1000Euro and it's rubbish. He has to be really carefull what he uses it for at work and you would think for that price it would cope with a few extra programmes. It also gets really hot - certainly can't sit with it on your knee and relax to work on it!

If it's really just for surfing the web and music I don't think you need to spend a fortune.

MmeLindt · 28/11/2008 21:11

Hmm I just looked at the MacBook. By jings, they are dear. I don't think I can spend that at the moment.

My last one was an Aldi Medion one and I was never really happy with it. It did not have enough memory and only had MS Work instead of Word. Shite basically. I will go better prepared this time.

I love my HP Pavillion dv9000.
There are lots of Pavillions to suit your needs, but this is fab for me.

Word is an extra but it's worth it isn't it. I think we'll be going PC shopping very soon. Ideally I would like us all to have a laptop and one of those wireless internet connections. The older the dc get the more fights there will be to be on the PC! And the long faces when h is working at home.

squeaver · 28/11/2008 21:16

No no no to boring old PCs. Get a Mac. You will NEVER regret it.

MmeLindt · 28/11/2008 21:18

The annoying thing is, I just upgraded to the latest Outlook version last week. Cost quite a bit. If I had known that the notebook was on it's last legs I would not have bothered.

Definitely go for the wifi connection, Admylin. I can MN in the garden

Yes ..I could sit on my balcony in summer! Infact I would take it to bed if I had a lap top and read the papers online! Oh and shopping in bed, bliss!

MmeLindt · 28/11/2008 21:27

Bugger. Just realized that I cannot do online shopping on my iPhone. Shit. I am not finished Xmas shopping yet.

You're going to have to go to an internet cafe or the local library! That's my plan-b if ours dies and we haven't got a new one.

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 28/11/2008 21:47

Oh your poor lappy Could it need a new battery? Not cheap, but cheaper than buying a new one.

I have a toshiba satellite- tis a gorgeous machine. Was without it for a week as the charger cable stopped working and was lost without it.

We have 2 other pc's though so didn't have to go to library.

The price of decent lappys has come down alot though. Dh got me mine last year as an ABC present, and the lappy plus bag and microsoft word came to just under a grand. PC world are doing a similar model, not quite the same spec, but still very nice, for under £400.

Though a collegue has a viao and it's lovely.

ilovemydog · 28/11/2008 21:52

retired goth, is um, 13 inches enough?

I had a 15 inch i book, so cannot fathom minus 2 inches....

MmeLindt · 28/11/2008 22:00

No. I tried a different cable and it doing the same. Or do you mean the battery on the laptop? I suppose it could me that but I have already spent quite a bit on it and is getting to the point where it is good money after bad.

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 28/11/2008 22:06

I would struggle with 13" i think. I have a 17".

Yeah I did mean the actual lappy battery, but I think they're between £100-£200? So if you've already spent a bit probably just as well getting a new lappy
