Does such a mobile contract exist?

DSD1 recently lost her mobile and we're planning on getting her another one for christmas.

In the past she's has pay as you go but we've frequently had the problem that she's spent her credit phoning/ texting her friends so has none in situations when she needs to contact us or her mother.

So, what I think would be great would be a part contract, part pay as you go system where only certain numbers (e.g dp, me, her mum) are charged to a contract that we pay for and anything else is 'pay as you go' that she pays for.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get anything like this?

ds got a contract phone the other day, didn't see or hear about anything like that. he has a £30 a month contract(plus£7.99 insurance) for that he got a £350 phone and unlimited texts and abut 400 mins talk a month.
that was about the best offer we could find.

I've just had my contract renewed, and improved, from Virgin. £12a month, with 150 minutes and 150 texts, plus a 'free' phone, allegedly worth £180.
Doesn't answer your question, however. Sorry. But yours is a good idea. Patent it quick!

And I wouldn't think it was a good idea to send a teenager out and about with an expensive phone.....

mummynumber2 · 22/11/2008 21:29

No, don't think an expensive phone would be a good idea for various reasons (not least of all because she managed to loose the last one!) I don't really want to get involved in an expensive contract for her either (she's only 12 fgs). But there's got to be some way round this.

My idea seems so obvious to me that I was sure someone must do it but nobody seems able to offer anything similar...........

Mind you, I'm sure we must spend more than £12 a month on credit for her at the moment (well, before she lost the phone that is) so maybe a contract is the way forward. We could then get her to pay for anything she spends over that amount from her pocket money. Thanks clam, I think you did answer my question after all!

y not get a genie sim card from o2 were u top up say £10 then get 300 texts free then get a cheap payt phone from argos or somewere like that

Nighbynight · 22/11/2008 22:30

you can get phones that take 2 sims. Not recommended by the networks though, I think!

Nighbynight · 22/11/2008 22:30

you can also get 1 account with 3 sims, so you can share the sims around the family. not sure if thats available in the uk yet.

Orange do a magic number which is free to call, you get one at first then a second after 6 months. Saves me a fortune. I have a contract but I think it is availible on pay as you go.

My contract is £15 a month with unlimited texts ideal for a teenager.

poppy34 · 22/11/2008 22:41

there is a part contract (ie £20 for x amount of calls/texts)then pay as you go thereafter on t mobile

RumMum · 22/11/2008 22:43

vodafone do a family deal, where 3 members also on vodafone have free unlimited calls to each other... think it was £15 a month

TinkerBellesMum · 22/11/2008 22:44

Don't T Mobile do that? It's been awhile since I've seen it advertised so don't know if it's still there.

poppy34 · 22/11/2008 22:44

had a double sim myself - you can buy adapters for your phone.. it knackers your sim after a while.

poppy34 · 22/11/2008 22:45

they still do it tink - tried (And failed due to lure of lovely new phone on another network ) to get one of dsc to get one

RumMum · 22/11/2008 22:47

family deal

Nighbynight · 22/11/2008 22:49

poppy in what way does it knacker the sim ?

poppy34 · 22/11/2008 22:56

I had a cheapy one from mobile me - its basically like a metal cage for your two sims -yuo have to cut them down (ie the surrounding cardy bit so you're just down to the metal chip bit) then squeeze it in). The problem is it worked fine for months but if you ever wanted to take sim out fo any reason (ie change battery etc) it started to bash up sim .

also you had to switch between networks which meant you lost texts etc on the line as you went to other network and couldnt take calls on both networks (ie its not like you could swtich between line one/two)

ShyBaby · 22/11/2008 23:08

We have the Vodafone one. Its £5 a month for up to four people (more if you add more numbers). Doesn't matter whether you are on contract or pay as you go. Call free for up to one hour to any of your listed numbers.
