We want to remove all of the photos and movies from our computer, having just printed out loads of photos through snapfish.

We will then save then on a memory stick so I can get my dad to write them all on to disc.

Put how do we:

a) find all the homemovies that we have put on the computer from our camera. they are split up into loads of files. Is there a search you can do?

b) as above but for our photos?

c) does anyone know if there is anywhere on the web we can get the movies put onto a disc/dvd

any advice gratefully received!

Goto Start>Search

Windows search seem to let you search for pictures/movies.

  • is a wildcard character, so it'll stand for anything.

Searching for *.jpg will find all the JPEG files you have.

Not sure about (c).

Are you trying to get your home movies written to DVD? Personally I'd say you're best off buying a DVD writer and doing it yourself.

Also gives you the abaility to back up all your pictures when your hard drive goes bang (which it will do, eventually).

little lapin - can you suggest a good hard-drive?

Kevlarhead - can a dvd writer be bought separate from computer (we had one but it's stopped working)

thank you both

off to try and search!

You can replace a DVD writer for about £15 (maybe less)
You can get external ones, but they cost more.

Fitting an internal one means taking off the side panels of the computer, unplugging three cables that connect to it, undoing 4 screws that hold it in place and sliding it out the front.
Then sliding in the new one, replacing the 4 screws and plugging the cables back in.

thanks for that onager, that's great to know
