It's because I double space a lot like this. At the end of every sentence. The American way is to only use one space I think and the extra space becomes converted into a question mark. So my mails look like this. ? It's very annoying. ? And while I try to remember to delete the spaces there's always an odd one left. ? Because they don't become converted into question marks until they're sent. ? So you can't see all the spaces to delete them. ?

Annoying isn't it grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I've googled this but found nothing. What shall I do -- help please! I'm writing a lot of official emails at the moment and when I cc them to our other mail account they just look ludicrous.

I'm afraid I can't help. It's very strange to read isn't it, because you go up at the end of all your sentences like a teenager from round here.

But if a techy person turns up to be helpful, could they also tell me why my pound sign has turned into a hash sign? #### ????

What email software are you using? It sounds like a spelling/grammar auto-correction that needs turning off.

Single spaces after full stops is not a UK/US thing, it is a proportional font (ie Word Processor) vs. fixed font (ie Typewriter) thing. The idea is that you only type one space, but the word processor knows that a space after a full stop should be longer. If you are sending your emails in HTML format then you probably won't see any difference between one and two spaces anyway.

Boco, you have your keyboard set to US. I bet you have " and @ swapped round too .

Well I've got a mac so my @ is always where the number 2 is, but usually where the number 3 is is also # a pound and not a # - so where's it gone then and how do i get it back?

stuffitllama · 20/11/2008 18:03

Hello I fell asleep like a dotard.

Thanks for replies -- I don't know what email software I'm using unfortunately. I too have a mac.

I'll try hotmail help and search for grammar auto correction.

Thank you Mr Vibrating! Yes Boco everyone must think I'm channelling an Australian teenager? I even read the emails back in my head in the same way?

argh

Sorry, I am not a regular Mac user so I am probably not the best person to help either of you.
