Can anyone recommend a good laptop? Doesn't have to be anything amazing just so I can use internet, windows, hook up to printer occasionally and be wireless (or are they all wireless these days??).

Thanks.

Pretty much all wifi/wireless capable.

A moderately priced one is by ASUS, not a huge screen, but ok to use, it is compact and does well at the basics, good memory, built in webcam.

Just recommended the Acer Aspire One on another thread. It's tiny, but cheap, and good if you just want internet access.

If you want windows and plan to use Office or similar, I would go for something bigger.

We've got a fab HP Pavillion which took over from our old PC. It was 450 so not the cheapest, but does everything we needed.

Make sure you get one with a dual core processor and 2or more RAM and you'll have what you need.

Thanks for your advice. As I am extremely untechnical I would appreciate any thoughts on this one Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook Tia.

Firstly if you're going to run Vista, 1Gb of RAM isn't really enough - you need at least 2 for a decent performance.

Secondly, one of the teachers at school has one of these & has had two problems - one is that the cursor jumps around a lot when you're typing - you can disable the tapping function to stop this, but it seems to be caused by the laptop having a particularly 'bouncy' keyboard, which makes the touchpad vibrate - we have the same problem with 4 other Acers which we bought at the same time.
The second problem, which is more serious, is that all these 5 Acers have problems with suddenly turning off, which seems to be because of overheating, due to the fan not functioning properly.

For reliability I'd recommend Toshibas or HP.

I would have thought this Toshiba is worth the small amount more it costs. it's got a much better processor, a useful amount of memory a much bigger disk and it's a Toshiba, which is a better brand than Acer IMO.

Great recommendations. Thanks.
