Digital cameras and batteries

Our current (little) digital camera eats batteries. And we want to upgrade to a better quality camera.

Do the Li-ion rechargeable batteries last longer? Are there any disadvantages to having a camera with a rechargeable battery?

Rechqargeable ones tend not to last very long ime.
The energiser lithium batteries are really good

But the ones with rechargeable batteries are lithium rechargeables aren't they? They are rectangular-shaped: look a bit like a memory card? Does anyone have one?

I have a Canon with its own rechargeable battery. I have generally found it'll last for 2 weeks with heavy usage, which is all I tend to ask of it, in terms of "all in one go", on holiday.

That's fantastic MaryBS and very encouraging. My little camera takes 2 AAA batteries, and can manage about a 20 min session taking maybe 15 photos (with flash) before they need replacing

I prefer normal AA rechargeables because you can always buy AAs in a shop - if the lithium rechargeable runs out you can't use the camera till it's recharged.
I just always keep a couple of sets of spare batteries in my camera bag & it doesn't take a moment to switch - my camera takes 2 AAs & they last much more than 20 minutes - probably about an hour I'd guess.

I've taken easily 150 pictures on the one charge. Its like a small battery pack, with its own charger.

They did batteries in Which recently, roisin - in a camera they got about 3 hours out of the very best alkaline & 8 hours out of the very best nimh rechargeable (you want about 2700 whatsits).

Buy 2 sets, and always recharge as soon as they die, and you will always have a spare set
