I would turn it upside down and shake it.

If the problem is just with those keys, and shaking doesn't do it, I would remove them, take out what's behind them and put them back on (it's fiddly)

Ok I'll try shaking and then vacuuiming. I woiuild prefer noiit toii take a key oiff as ds managed toii take oiinie oiff when he was smaller and I coiuildn't get it back oiin again and had toii take it intoii the IT croiwd at woirk. Noiiw that I doiiin't woiirk I doiin't koiiw hoiiw I woiuld get a key back oiin.

air duster.
special pressurised cannister blows the dust out without losing keys. it really works.
there should be a little clip at the back of the key to fit it back on again.

Carefully - I broke one key on dd's laptop, and it cost £90 to repair!!

Mung · 17/06/2008 14:03

DH uses a special can of air from work. Why not give it a good blow.

bran · 17/06/2008 14:11

Right, I have turned it oiff and done a really good shake and a bit of blowing and it seems much better. But now I have to press down really hard to make the s work - so I might have a go with the dyson too. The trouble is there are twoi full suitcases in front of the cupboard where the dyson is. (DH has previous form for inviting people that I hardly know to stay with us and then pissing pushing off toi another couintry. But that's a whole different thread I think.]

Testing to see if all is now ok.

I think the Dyson has done the trick, I wonder if it would work just as well on the unwelcome guest.

I will buy one of those compressed air thingies next time I pass a geeky shop.

I still blame dh though. He gets hayfever but blokeily denies that he does and refuses to take any medication. I bet it was a sneeze that gummed everything up, I had to clean the screen today too, which is an indicator I think.

at DH sneezing all over the keyboard and screen. Place a box of tissues next to the computer for future sneezing outbursts.

bran · 17/06/2008 14:28

Mung - you have struck at the very heart of my issue with dh denying he has hayfever. He never grabs a tissue or covers his mouth and nose, he claims he doesn't have enough warning of the impending sneeze. Personally I think he should wear a bandanna over his nose bandit-style until the summer is over.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

To clean the keyboard I have take off all the keys and give it a good clean. You then have to get them all back on in the right place. This is fine for the QWERTY bit but it is worth making a note of the "operational" ones!
